My name is Iryna Vodolazhchenko. I was born in Kharkiv, and I studied at the Kharkiv Academy of Design and Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Monumental Painting. On February 24, at 5:00 am, the war in my country began. Our city was bombed every day, without a break, day and night. My family and I hid in the subway, in bomb shelters, and in our own hallway. The worst thing is a supersonic bomb dropping plane, I remember the wave shaking the walls, it was so scary that I started to choke. I had 2 or 3 panic attacks, tantrums. Mental load. But I felt a very strong cohesion between all the neighbors and relatives. The first days lasted like 2 weeks.
On the 10th day of the war (March 6), my relatives and I left Kharkiv. I did not fully understand what things to take with us, and for how long I will be leaving my home. We quickly collected things and took them to the car to the sounds of artillery shelling or hail. The explosions sounded like they were next door. An air alarm sounded, and at this dangerous moment we left without a plan. We went to the neighboring town Dnipro. The next morning we went to Oleksandriia. Currently, me, my brother, mother and father, and my friends (Katerina and Artem) are staying at the hotel. There are also air alarms here, but it's quiet, no explosions, there is food in the shops, there is water. We support each other. Only on the 10th day I started painting again. I am currently out of work. I am looking for a job and ways how can be useful to my country and Ukrainians.
